Green energy from the waves by a Finnish company called Wello Oy.
Company produces Penguin wave energy converters as a result of highly committed innovation work and engineering. Energy is captured from waves with a unique working principle based on the shape of the device. The converter is designed to respond to the movement of waves. Supply chain is scalable by using off-the-shelf components and shipyards to manufacture the devices.
Wello's concept is unique. It is the only technology that converts waves to electricity directly through continuous rotational movement. Motion energy is directly captured by a generator and converted to electricity without hydraulics, joints or gears.
Company has been testing a full scale grid connected wave energy converter in Orkney Scotland since 2012. During this time the device has experienced the harshest ocean conditions and survived several storms with up to 12 meter waves. All components inside the device are still original ones building further confidence that wave energy can be deployed with minimal service needs.
Another deployment has been prepared to Cornwall (England) together with the utility company Fortum. Wello has also started testing a wave energy converter prototype Penguin II at Plocan Test Site, off Gran Canaria NE coast.
